The tragic events of November 22, 1963 continue to resonate in Oak Cliff, as several locations figure prominently in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The Beckley Rooming House

At the time of the assassination, Oswald was renting a room at a boarding house at 1026 N. Beckley. He rented the room beginning on October 14, 1963, paying $8 a week to the Johnson family.

Oswald would stay there during the week, but on weekends, would stay with his estranged wife Marina, who was living with a friend in Irving.

After the assassination, Oswald reportedly rushed back to the house, grabbed a jacket, and quickly left. Soon afterward, he shot Dallas officer J.D. Tippet on 10th Street and was apprehended at the Texas Theatre.

The home, still owned by the Johnson family, reportedly conducts private tours. A website for the tours, OswaldRoomingHouseTours.com, however, is currently offline.

The Texas School Book Depository

On October 16, 1963, Oswald began working at the Texas School Book Depository.
